Sikes Hydrometer
The sikes hydrometer is an instrument for measuring density of a liquid. It is based on the Archimedes' principle, stating that any object immersed in a fluid, is buoyed up by a force equal to the weight of the fluid displaced by the object. The captain generally used this instrument to check the sea salinity starting from specific weight. Buoyancy varies from warm tropical to northern waters, and this affects the amount of goods that can be loaded on a ship.
